Sarge at the 2006 BMW Rally

Sarge endures the Dog Days of Summer at the 2006 BMW International Rally in Burlington, Vermont. The temps and humidity were both about 99! He is in the 2002 Velorex sidecar attached to the 1986 BMW R80 motorcycle. He enjoys sticking his head out, catching the wind sans goggles.

1952 Ford 8N Tractor

This a '52 Ford 8N tractor with a Funk Aircraft Co. 6-cylinder Ford truck engine conversion doing York Rake duty in a new garden area.

The vertical granite piece on the right was found in the Milford Quarry. It is the quarry's trademark marbelized granite, and it appears to resemble the shape of New Hampshire.

1928 Ford Model A

The Model A Ford replaced the Model T and was introduced in December 1927.

The U.S. presidential election of 1928 pitted Democrat Al Smith against Republican Herbert Hoover. The “Al Smith” plate was a promotional item for drivers to advertise their candidate during the election period. This plate has been refinished.

The Model A was a simple, economical car, and many of them kept running throughout the Great Depression years of the 1930’s and longer. I bought this one in December 1954 at the Sunoco station on U.S. Route 1 in Topsfield, Mass. Price: $75.

I drove it daily, and, with Firestone snow tires, it was a good match for New England winters.

Ford Colors: Niagara Blue, light and dark; Black fenders.

Wheels: French Gray (in 1928 they, with would have been painted black.)

This a snapshot of the 1928 Ford Tudor taken in 1955 after I had refurbished it a bit: engine rebuilt, brakes relined, paint redone, some nickel plating. The paint was the best that my $40 Sears Sprayer and compressor could do, and the colors were not as original.

My dog Robin Hood is shown here, too. Supposedly purebred, he had a coat somewhat coarse for the English Setter breed, but he was a great companion and an avid hunter. Sarge and Robin would have been good friends.
